STEP will implement a significant industrial investment as a part of the battery cluster at the Harjavalta industrial park

Suomen Teollisuuden Energiapalvelut - STEP Oy (STEP) and BASF Battery Materials Finland Oy (BASF) have made a long-term agreement to deliver industrial utilities to BASF’s battery materials plant that will be built in Harjavalta.

STEP is investing in a new steam, demi water and pressurized air plant and major pipeline infrastructure at the site. STEP is responsible for implementing and financing the project. The STEP´s existing plants will be utilized and STEP´s team will operate the new installations dedicated to BASF. In addition, the recovery heat generated in the Harjavalta Industrial Park will be made available to the energy grid for use by local utilities replacing fossil fuels.

”The transition to electric mobility has the potential to greatly reduce air pollution and it’s an honor for STEP to be a part of this development. STEP’s investment will support the development of the battery cluster in Finland and demonstrates our company’s long-term partnership strategy. Optimizing the utility costs of the company is one of our main goals, combined to usability requirements of the industry. Our excellent partnership model has been proven in our recent energy projects” enthusiastically added Managing Director Tomi Ihalainen

STEP’s expertise and know-how in industrial utilities is ensuring and enabling that the BASF battery materials plant can focus on their core processes.

STEP wants to thank BASF for the confidence they have shown in STEP’s reliability and service quality as well as in the company’s capability to carry out this investment.

This is the largest investment in STEP’s history.  The project is very important for STEP, and it will support the company’s growth. The construction will be started in 2020, and the plant will be commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2021.
